Warm spices and apples cooked down into a thick, spreadable staple
Ingredients
- 9- 10 Autumn Glory® apples, peeled and cored
- 1 cup of quality apple cider
- ¾ cup packed light brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Directions
- Place prepped apples and all other ingredients, minus the lemon juice, into a large pot.
- Cook over medium heat, uncovered, stirring every 5-10 minutes until the apples are partially broken down and soft. This will take 50- 60 minutes.
- Next, use an immersion blender to blend the apple mixture until smooth.
- Then, return the mixture to your pot. Cook over medium-low heat, stirring until thickened. You ultimately want a thick, silky, deep brown.
- Once you are satisfied with the color, texture, etc., remove from the heat and stir in lemon juice.
- Transfer to jars or storage containers.
- Keep refrigerated, and enjoy all the things- like drizzled in oatmeal, on biscuits, etc.
