Autumn Glory Apple Galette

This apple galette is a simple, rustic dessert made with thinly sliced apples, warm spices, and a flaky pie crust. As it bakes, the apples soften and release their juices, creating a tender, flavorful filling with notes of cinnamon, nutmeg, and cardamom. The crust turns golden and crisp, wrapping around the fruit for a perfectly imperfect finish. Served with a drizzle of miso caramel and a scoop of vanilla ice cream, this easy apple dessert is ideal for entertaining or everyday baking.

This apple galette features thinly sliced apples tossed in warm spices, baked in a flaky, golden crust.

Ingredients

  • 1 pie dough
  • 4 medium apples, cored and sliced
  • ½ tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons light brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon cardamom
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg, for egg wash
  • Turbinado sugar
  • Miso caramel (optional)
  • Vanilla Ice Cream (optional)

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Line a baking tray with a silicone baking mat.
  2. Toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, vanilla, and melted butter in a large mixing bowl. Then add the brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, and salt. Toss until combined.
  3. Roll the pie dough into a 12-inch circle on a lightly floured surface and trim the edges for a clean look. Place a 9-inch cake pan in the center and gently press it to create an indentation for the apples.
  4. Arrange the apples into the pie crust, leaving any excess juices behind. Lift the dough over the apples and overlap the dough every 3 inches. Gently press to seal. Chill the galette in the refrigerator for 30 minutes or until the pastry is firm.
  5. Lightly brush the egg wash and sprinkle turbinado sugar over the crust. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the apples are soft and the crust is golden brown.
  6. Serve with a drizzle of miso caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream.
