Superfresh Growers Volunteers at the 2022 Turkey Drive

Each year, members of our Superfresh team gather to work at Second Harvest's Turkey Drive, a program that provides food boxes to Yakima residents for Thanksgiving. This was the seventh annual Turkey Drive hosted by Second Harvest. Cars lined up around the block and down the street, many already in line for hours. Pallets of boxes, each holding all the necessary ingredients for a delicious Thanksgiving dinner, stood in the parking lot of the Yakima Fairgrounds: our team and a few other local businesses assisted in distributing the boxes to local families. In addition to participating in the labor portion of the event, Superfresh Growers was honored to help sponsor the food in the boxes.

Between three distribution locations, Tri-Cities, Sunnyside, and Yakima, this event provided 2,500 complete Thanksgiving meal boxes to needy families. With inflation at a 41-year high, it is more important than ever to help families facing hunger in the Yakima Valley.

Participating for three consecutive years, this event has remained near and dear to the Superfresh team. Loading boxes into cars, directing long lines of traffic eager to receive their boxes, and sharing smiles and cheer throughout the event is what the Thanksgiving holiday is all about.

Second Harvest is a nonprofit that supplies a network of partner food banks, meal sites, and other programs feeding people across Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho. Their vision is “fighting hunger, feeding hope: Second Harvest brings community resources together to feed people in need through empowerment, education, and partnerships.”
