During the YWCA 30th Annual Leadership Luncheon, we were reminded of the impact that we can have when we unite for an important cause.
Last week, Superfresh Growers® had the privilege of attending this year's luncheon. We had the chance to reflect on the issues that plague our community and educate ourselves on how we can help. The luncheon shed light on the harsh realities faced by many individuals and families affected by domestic violence. It was a pivotal moment for our team as we listened to the speakers discuss the extensive needs of those working to leave behind a violent home life. The stories shared were not just statistics; they were about real people in our neighborhoods needing real help. From a 911 phone call made by a 10-year-old to the story of a woman who was able to escape from her abuser.
Superfresh Growers Account Manager Eva Martinez notes that awareness of the YWCA services can make all the difference in someone’s life. “It’s traumatizing to see a loved one go through something like that,” said Martinez. Having helped a family member escape a violent relationship, she wishes they had known about the YWCA services; she adds, “It’s good to know that there are people and places who give a damn about the women and children that are suffering from it.”
The YWCA has been at the forefront of empowering women and promoting racial justice in Yakima since the early 1900s. The luncheon brought together countless community leaders, local businesses, and government representatives to support these efforts. Each speaker provided insights into the resources required to support these families: shelter, counseling, legal aid, and more. The depth of the challenge is immense, and the resources needed are substantial.
While Superfresh Growers has partnered and volunteered with the Yakima YWCA for years, we came out of this event with a renewed commitment to support the program in its mission. The luncheon was a call to action for all of us, highlighting the importance of community involvement and servitude.
Our heartfelt thanks go to the YWCA for their unyielding dedication and for enlightening us on the significant work that still lies ahead. We are honored to stand with them and are motivated to continue our support, ensuring that every individual and family has the opportunity to rise above and lead a life free from violence.
