At Superfresh Growers, we’re always excited to celebrate the incredible people who make our team extraordinary. This year, we had the privilege of recognizing Molly Cochran, Replenishment Team Manager, as our Employee of the Year. Molly grew up in East Wenatchee and graduated from Washington State University (she was not a part of the marching band, despite what the rest of the team might say).
“We had a lot of nominations this year for multiple people across our team. However, there was one that stood out, and we’re so excited to be able to recognize them today,” said Jay Short, VP of Sales. “Molly, your hard work, leadership, and commitment have made a remarkable impact on this team. You’re constantly going above and beyond in everything you do. You’ve set the bar high, you’ve challenged your comfort zones, and we’re incredibly lucky to have you as part of our team.”
Let’s dive in and look closer at Molly’s inspiring journey, her motivation, and what fuels her passion for excellence every day.
Molly, what inspired you to join Superfresh Growers?
In 2005, a friend encouraged me to move to Yakima and apply to a hiring agency. The agency paired me with Superfresh Growers, and the rest is history. Interestingly, I’m not the only one who came through the agency: a few of us here started the same way and in the same year as me.
How has your journey here evolved?
This was my first job out of college, so I feel like I’ve grown up here. When I started, I didn’t know much about apples- I just knew how to eat them! Over the years, I’ve learned so much and continue to learn every day. My first role was replenishment analyst for a retail-specific team. Over time, I’ve moved through different positions and responsibilities, but I always seem to circle back to this account. It’s been a journey of continuous growth and discovery.
Did you ever imagine working in produce?
Never! When I was younger, I thought I’d end up in a creative field like publishing. But I’m so glad I landed here right out of college. It’s been an unexpected but rewarding path.
How do you stay consistent and motivated when delivering exceptional work?
For me, it’s all about the values I was raised with. I was taught never to do anything halfway. Every day, I strive to give my best effort, even on challenging days. It’s important to me to go home knowing I’ve done my very best. I’ve never felt emotionally checked out, and I think that mindset has helped me stay consistent.
What’s a challenge you faced this year, and how did you overcome it?
The past two years have pushed me out of my comfort zone as I stepped into a management role. It’s been a learning curve as people constantly approach me with questions and concerns. While I don’t naturally enjoy the spotlight, it’s rewarding to be someone the team can rely on. Navigating this challenge has taught me about myself and my availability as a leader.
How would you describe your relationship with your team?
I absolutely love my team. Each member brings a unique personality to the table—some are quieter, others more outgoing—and I enjoy getting to know them on a personal level. Watching them grow, both personally and professionally, is incredibly fulfilling. I often describe it as one big, loud, hard-working, and fun family. We work hard, but we also know how to enjoy ourselves.
Who inspires you in your personal and professional life, and why?
In my professional life, Jay Short is a huge inspiration. He approaches every day with a positive attitude and coaches the team with a balance of firmness and encouragement. His “tough-love” style resonates with everyone, and I aspire to emulate that.
On a personal level, my biggest inspiration is my grandma. She was a trailblazer who raised her children and built a career at a time when it wasn’t the norm. She worked her way up to becoming a vice principal and always carried herself with grace and confidence. She was a true bada**!
What advice would you give to new employees?
Stay humble and ask a lot of questions. No one knows everything, and there’s always room to learn and grow.
What does being Employee of the Year mean to you?
It was such a surprise! Being nominated by my peers is the biggest compliment I could receive. It’s an honor to know that people see and appreciate the effort I put in every day. Although it was unexpected, it means the world to me, so thank you.
Molly's remarkable journey is a testament to hard work, dedication, and the incredible growth that comes from stepping out of your comfort zone. The recognition of Employee of the Year underscores not only the individual achievements but also the spirit of teamwork and community that makes Superfresh Growers so special. We’re proud to celebrate the accomplishments of our team members who pour their heart and soul into their work and uplift those around them. Congratulations again to Molly, and thank you for setting such a powerful example for us all. Here’s to continuing to grow, learn, and succeed together.
