Fall is quickly approaching. With cherry season complete, blueberries still being picked, and pears beginning to reach grocery shelves, we’re preparing for the full swing of apple harvest.
In this month’s Orchard Update, Dave Gleason shares how our farm teams monitor color, firmness, sugar development, and starch conversion to determine the ideal harvest timing for each apple block. That timing also depends on the fruit’s destination, whether it will move directly to store shelves, be stored for later in the season, or be sent for processing. By matching maturity with purpose, our teams ensure each apple is picked at its prime!
